Protein Diet
The Protein Diet
Dieting is ever popular among the masses these days. As starlets become thinner and thinner, the average person is eager to simulate the look of their favorite celebrity. A popular dieting trend is taking protein and refuses carbs. The Protein Diet can be effective when used properly, but also can only be temporary if you don’t make this form of diet a permanent trend.
Protein and Atkins Diet
As with almost every other diet craze, high protein diets have their ups and their downs. One of the most popular of these diets is of course Atkins.
This diet doesn’t allow almost any carbohydrates at all. This diet has caused such a stir when Dr. Atkins passed away; many people are refusing to use this diet as it is often thought dangerous. Almost any weight los diet is dangerous if not properly followed with exercise and doctor assistance.
Protein and South Beach Diet
Another high Protein Diet that is gaining in popularity is the South Beach Diet. This hugely popular weight loss diet promises that if you do it consistently and permanently, you can expect to lose up to 8-13 pounds in the first two weeks. The emphasis with this diet is to avoid highly processed carbohydrates, such as those that you would find in baked goods, breads, snacks and sodas. Divided into three phases, the diet helps you to slowly reintroduce some of the foods that you have to get rid of at the onset. One premise of the diet is that low-fat prepared foods are a bad idea. By this I mean low fat cheeses etc.
Diet and Exercise
One of the major benefits to this diet for people that participate in it is that exercise is not the main focus of it. In fact, it is not really encouraged at all. What a boon for those that hate to exercise!
What to expect from Protein Diet
What you can expect to eat of lot of with this diet is eggs, meats, and of course vegetables. Any food that has sugar, starchy veggies, grains and fruit are forbidden here. A diet that is high in protein can help to balance out your sugar levels.
Disadvantages of Protein Diet
Also, a Protein Diet can lead to faster than average weight loss. But you should realize that most of the weight that you lose initially is water. Having healthy amounts of carbohydrates is how your body stores water; which is something the body needs as long as it is not to excess. If you drastically reduce the amount of carbohydrate in your body, then you retain less water. The potential catch is that when you start eating carbs again, you will gain it all back.
Another problem with this is that it can lead you to intake too much cholesterol. All that meat and cheese, which is allowed by the diet, can be very unhealthy. Some people that follow this diet trend have kidney problems because of it. It is for this reason that you should have this diet properly monitored by a doctor.
This diet works, but it is not meant for a long term eating plan. But if you want to lose a smaller amount of weight, Protein Diet is a great to accomplish it. After that all you have to maintain the weight loss with proper exercise and better eating habits.
