Hoodia

Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia is a cactus like plant that is primarily found and traditional used as an appetite suppressant by the San Bushman of the Kalahari Desert in Africa. This plant is one of the most controversial diet products on the market. If dieters were to have to smell this plant, they will find the aroma similar to rotten meat. But when it is condensed into pill or liquid form for dieters who use weight loss supplements, the smell is less repugnant.

Manufactures versus Scientists

Manufacturers claim that Hoodia successfully reduces your appetite so that you eat less and lost weight. However, scientist claim there is no evidence to back up their claim. Consumer Reports declined to endorse the product in 2008 because of the lack of scientific research. Despite the lack of confidence in the supplement, marketing campaigns are prevelant online and in late night infomercials. Most people find some sort of advertisment for Hoodia in their inbox or spam folders every time they open their email. The campaigns seem to be working. The weight loss supplements a best seller. The reason is likely due to people desparate to lose weight and looking for a quick fix.

However, nutritionists and doctors will tell you there is no quick fix. Even with all of its claims, Hoodia is no substitute for a Healthy Diet and exercise. In fact, another weight loss supplement, Hydroxycut, has been taken off the market by the Food and Drug Administration because it has been found to cause liver damage in users. This has not happened with this product, but again, scientists say not enough research is available to measure the effects.

On the other hand some scientist report that this African cactus has become one of the popular catalysis for weight loss, as is has an active component, so called P57 molecule, that helps suppress appetite. You need to be aware that there are many Hoodia plant kinds but only Gordonii has the ability to suppress appetite, that's what scientist say.
There are also many diet pills on the market today but you have to be aware that some of these advertised pills do not contain any of its ingredients at all or better to say, they will contain low doses that are inadequate to archive weight loss.
